In the wake of confirmation earlier this week that Drew Goddard will be both writing and directing Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man spinoff, The Sinister Six, IGN had a chance to sit down with Spider-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who dropped a few details about the supervillain team-up.
“[E template=’galleryview’]–>verybody’s looking for redemption,” says Arad. “They’re unforgiven… As long as there’s that one thing in common: they’ll hate Spider-Man. They’ll hate him because he’s so different from them. But then, you know when you sit by yourself somewhere and you think about it, they all had a different life at one time and that’s what’s so beautiful about the Spider-Man universe.”
“There’s no such thing as just a villain,” adds Tolmach. “There are villains by virtue of choices that people make but they always begin as humans, as characters. As flawed people; as tragic people. You know great movies have been made about a bunch of bad guys who get together to do something.?
Whether or not a certain wall-crawler will be making an appearance, however, remains to be seen.
“We’re definitely not going to say what we’re doing in terms of Spider-Man there,” says Tolmach.
There’s no announced timeframe as of yet for The Sinister Six, although it’s likely to follow The Amazing Spider-Man 3‘s June 10, 2016 release date, potentially replacing The Amazing Spider-Man 4 on May 4, 2018. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, meanwhile, hits theaters on May 2.
