Sony Pictures sets release date for action comedy The Man from Toronto
Sony Pictures has set a release date of January 14, 2022, or MLK weekend, for its upcoming film The Man from Toronto, starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson. That puts the action comedy in competition with Sony’s latest installment in its Marvel Universe Morbius, starring Jared Leto (Zack Snyder’s Justice League) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who), which is currently slated to open five days later on Jan. 19.

The Man from Toronto was originally scheduled to open on November 20, but was removed from the release date calendar due to the pandemic. Notably, Hart’s Ride Along and Ride Along 2 rank third and fourth in terms of box office openings over the MLK weekend with $48.6M and $41M apiece in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Directed by Patrick Hughes (Hitman’s Bodyguard, Red Hill, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard) from a screenplay penned by Robbie Fox (Playing for Keeps) and Chris Bremner (Bad Boys for Life), the action comedy follows the world’s deadliest assassin and New York’s biggest screwup as they’re mistaken for each other at an Airbnb rental.
The Man From Toronto also stars Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory, The Flight Attendant) and Ellen Barkin (Animal Kingdom, Breaking News in Yuba County), Lela Loren (Power, Altered Carbon) and Kate Drummond (Wynnona Earp, Utopia Falls). Bill Bannerman, Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth serve as executive producers. Producers are Steve Tisch, Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal.

Harrelson took over for Jason Statham, who left the project last year after creative differences with the studio as the Transporter star wanted an edgier, R-rated tone for the pic, which didn’t jive well with the film’s initial Thanksgiving release date.
