According to Variety, Apple has entered negotiations to acquire Skydance Animation’s first two animated films titled Spellbound, and Luck with the studio still hoping to give both films theatrical releases before possibly making their respective streaming debuts on Apple TV+. Paramount Pictures was previously attached to distribute the John Lasseter-produced features and had slated Luck for a February 18, 2022 release and Spellbound for a November 11, 2022 release. It unclear if the potential deal could affect the films’ original theatrical dates.

Spellbound will follow the story of a young who must break the spell that has split her kingdom in two. The film will be directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek) from a script co-written by Mulan‘s Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin along with Linda Woolverton (The Lion King). Further details about the film’s cast and characters are being kept under wraps.
It will feature music from Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken which will reunite him with long-time collaborators and fellow Grammy-winners, lyricist Glenn Slater and former Walt Disney Music President Chris Montan, who have all worked together on The Little Mermaid and Tangled.

Directed by Peggy Holmes, Luck centers around the unluckiest girl alive who stumbles upon the never-before-seen world of good and bad luck and must join with magical creatures to uncover a force more powerful than even luck itself. The project hails from John Lasseter and Holly Edwards.
