Universal's Jurassic World: Dominion Finally Wraps Production

Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to share a new behind-the-scenes photo which you can check out below, confirming that production on Universal Pictures’ upcoming third installment to the Jurassic World films has finally been completed in the UK after a series of filming setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic.

Speaking with Deadline, the blockbuster filmmaker has also opened up about the strong bond that the cast and crew have formed during production while also praising them for their hard work. The outlet also noted that Universal had spent around $6 million to $8 million for the highly-anticipated film’s COVID-19 protocols.

“I’m not sure I can put it into words,” Trevorrow said. “It has been remarkable. Our crew and our cast have been so resilient. All producers have worked around the clock to make it the best it can be. It has been inspiring.”

He continued, “We lived together, ate together, told stories, shared our fears and hopes, played Frisbee on the lawn… there was a lot of laughter at a time when it has been hard to find things to laugh about.

“We were all far from those we loved at a time when you want to be closest to them. I missed my family greatly. I was away from them for four months. But the cast in our bubble became another family.”

Because of this unique experience, Trevorrow believes that the extra time they’ve spent together has a positive effect on the film’s quality. He hopes that he could be able to replicate Dominion’s filmmaking process in future productions.

“I think that close proximity to each other has made the movie better,” He said. “Everything we were going through emotionally we would share. We would rehearse on Sundays, we crafted the characters, which made the emotion of the film richer. I think the movie will be stronger for it.”

“I’ve never been as immersed in a filmmaking process,” he continued. “Because of the protocols, the actors didn’t go far from set. The distance was stripped away. There were things that happened on this movie that I’d hope to be able to continue on future productions.”

Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, Donna Langley commented on the studio’s successful implementation of safety protocols throughout the film’s shoot: “As we continue to contend with the challenges facing our industry during a global pandemic, the collaborative nature of this production allowed us to safely complete nearly 100 days of shooting, and we are so proud of what this team was able to accomplish.”

She added, “We designed our return-to-production guidelines with safety being the foremost priority and everyone associated with Jurassic World: Dominion stepped up, held themselves and those around them accountable, and the results have been amazing. Congratulations to our filmmakers and cast for their tireless efforts that paved the way for other productions across the industry to get back to work.”

Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow return to executive produce Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Dominion, with Trevorrow once again directing the next chapter in one of the biggest franchises in the history of cinema. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the filmmakers for this installment.

The upcoming threequel will be starring returning cast members from the first two Jurassic World films include Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith as well as original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Campbell Scott. It will also feature Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for You Loss), DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Dichen Lachman (Animal Kingdom, Altered Carbon), Scott Haze (Venom, Antlers).

Joining the Jurassic team for the first time is Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim Uprising, The Black Hole), who will craft the Jurassic World 3 screenplay with Trevorrow. They will work off a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, who together co-wrote Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Dominion is currently set to debut in theaters on June 10, 2022.
