The Suicide Squad: James Gunn Says No Character in the Film Was Protected
James Gunn is hard at work preparing his upcoming film The Suicide Squad but still found time to answer a few fan questions regarding the film on Twitter. And while no plot points or specific details were revealed, the director did point out that he basically had free reign on the fate of every character in the film. Check out the full Tweet below!
“No character was protected by DC,” Gunn wrote in response to a fan post suggesting some of the characters, including Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, had “franchise armor.” “They gave me carte blanche to do what I wanted. That was one of the things we agreed to before I came to work for them. I wasn’t looking for shock value but I wanted the audience to know anything could happen.”
Later, Gunn used Yondu as an example of a character he killed off while also reiterating that he will not return aside from flashbacks.
“I get sometimes you can bring back characters in a cool way. But usually, if a character dies, & it’s a meaningful part of the story, the character should stay dead. So unless it’s a flashback, Yondu will stay dead, as far as I’m concerned. Otherwise, it ruins his sacrifice.”
In other words, in The Suicide Squad, anything can happen.
