While simultaneously busy prepping to get cameras rolling on the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi’s producing streak isn’t slowing down soon as the upcoming horror pic Umma has found its lead in Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), according to Deadline.

Written and directed by Iris K. Shim in her feature directorial debut, the film centers on Oh’s Amanda and her daughter as they live a quiet life on an American farm but find it uprooted as the remains of Amanda’s estranged mother arrive from Korea and create a fear of turning into her own mother.
In addition to Oh, Shim has begun building her cast to include Fivel Stewart (Atypical), Dermot Mulroney (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Odeya Rush (Let It Snow), MeeWha Alana Lee (Awkwafina is Nora from Queens) and Tom Yi (The Good Place).
Sam Raimi is producing the film alongside Zainab Azizi via his Raimi Productions banner for their development deal with Starlight Media, who is co-financing the film alongside Raimi Productions and Sony’s Stage 6 Films, with Starlight’s CEO Peter Luo set to executive produce alongside Matt Black, Jeanette Volturno and Marcej Brown of Catchlight Studios and André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark).

Umma will mark the third film to be produced by the Evil Dead co-creator under the Raimi Productions banner after the 2014 indie comedic thriller Murder of a Cat and last year’s smash monster movie hit Crawl. Starlight Media is best known for producing a number of critical and commercial hits including the Chadwick Boseman-starring Marshall, Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians and Roland Emmerich’s Midway.
