According to Variety, Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress Elisabeth Moss is continuing to strengthen her partnership with Blumhouse as she officially signs on for the leading role in their upcoming film adaptation of former Congresswoman Katie Hill’s memoir titled She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality. The project is being developed to be released on a streaming service.
“I am so honored to have the opportunity to portray Katie and to help tell her story,” Moss said in a statement. “Her strength and work to amplify women’s voices is incredibly inspiring to me and her experiences could not be more important for us to magnify right now. As always, Jason and the Blumhouse team are such incredible partners and Lindsey and I are thrilled to make something powerful with them and Michael.”

Moss is set to portray the role of Katie Hill, who was forced to resign last year due to an inappropriate affair she had with a campaign staffer. Following that, she also became a victim of revenge porn when tabloids had published her private nude photos that were released by her husband.
“I wrote She Will Rise to try to take back my story from those who have exploited and twisted it.” Hill said. “I also wanted to shine a light on the stories of women whose resilience and bravery gave me strength when I needed it most, and hopefully to provide inspiration to others. Having this larger platform to tell this story, working with the talented team at Blumhouse and Michael, and the incredible Elisabeth Moss as the lead, is more than I ever could have imagined — I am so grateful for the opportunity and look forward to collaborating on this project.”

Recently published last August, Hill’s She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality details her experience as a young woman with no prior political experience whose charm, and common sense won over the people in her district and thrust her into the halls of power in Washington. While her brash confidence won her powerful allies and infuriated her enemies, it was privately concealing a cycle of domestic abuse she was trapped in at home, infamously culminating in the release of intimate photos and the revelation of her own admitted personal mistakes that would eventually result in her stunning fall from grace.

The untitled film adaptation will be penned by Michael Seitzman, who is also producing through his Maniac Productions banner along with Moss and Lindsey McManus through their Love & Squalor Pictures. It will also be executive produced by Hill and Blumhouse TV’s Jeremy Gold with Jason Blum set as a producer.
Moss is best known for her role as Offred/June in Hulu’s series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel The Handmaid’s Tale which had earned her two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress. She most recently starred in Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man and Josephine Decker’s Shirley film. Moss will next be seen in Wes Anderson’s star-studded dramedy The French Dispatch and Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins.
