Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Luther, Beasts of No Nation, Thor: Ragnarok) is set to star in Beast, an upcoming survival thriller from Universal Pictures with Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, The Deep, Jar City) attached to direct, according to Deadline.

Based on an original idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan, the screenplay will be written by Ryan Engle (Rampage, The Commuter, Non-Stop).
Plot details for Beast are minimal besides it being in the vein of 2016’s The Shallows, but instead of sharks, a lion will apparently “be involved as the central antagonist.”
Will Packer and James Lopez will serve as producers through their Will Packer Productions banner. Kormákur will produce via his RVK Studios with Primak-Sullivan executive producing. Matt Reilly, Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production, along with Creative Executive Tony Ducret will oversee the feature on behalf of the studio.

Beast will mark the second project between Packer, Lopez, Primak-Sullivan, and Engle after the group collaborated on the 2018 Breaking In, starring Gabrielle Union and directed by James McTeigue from a script written by Engle from a story by Primak-Sullivan.
