Based on Simon Rich’s New Yorker short story of the same name, the story acts as a short essay guide with tips on how to help raise one’s child whilst in the middle of a creature pandemic that has unleashed the likes of Gorgog the Annihilator, Ctharga the Eater of Souls and a giant portal in the sky called Drain of Ga.
Rich is also set to pen the script for the project, adapting the material in the same manner as he did with the forthcoming Seth Rogen-starring An American Pickle at HBO Max, also based on a short story of his. Alongside finding its star and writer for the project, Universal has landed Paul King, well-known for co-writing and directing the acclaimed Paddington franchise, to helm the film.
As if Rich, Reynolds and King weren’t already enough of a creative team to make this an exciting to project to watch for, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s Phil Lord and Chris Miller are attached to produce the film alongside Aditya Sood via their Lord Miller banner, with Rich attached to produce with Reynolds and George Dewey via the duo’s Maximum Effort Productions.

Lord Miller recently penned a first-look deal with Universal Pictures and brought the project forward to the studio after hearing Rich’s pitch, which was quickly greenlit as the studio sought the rights to the story in a pre-emptive deal and will be overseen by Universal’s Senior Vice President of Production Sara Scott.
