Over the past few weeks we’ve learned of several locations that Marvel Studios will be setting up production for Avengers: Age of Ultron. In addition to their primary shooting in the UK, the film will do some shooting in northern Italy and South Korea, but that’s not all. It has now been officially announced (via Channel 24) that the sequel will be going to Johannesburg and Gauteng, South Africa!
‘We’re thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg,” said Gauteng Film Commission CEO Ms Phindile Mbanujwa. “We’re committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer.”
Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tausaid added: “We are excited to host Marvel… It strengthens Johannesburg’s position as a worldwide film production centre with first class facilities and production support. It also has a very positive impact for the region and is a great opportunity for the city to be showcased to a worldwide audience.”
The site reports that the film will shoot in the region for two weeks beginning in the middle of February, but unfortunately won’t bring the principal cast members of the film for that time.
Written and directed once again by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters May 1, 2015.
