Disney+’s Home Alone reboot adds Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell and more
According to Deadline, Saturday Night Live cast members Kenan Thompson and Chris Parnell (30 Rock, Rick and Morty) have been tapped to join the cast of Disney+’s forthcoming Home Alone reboot. Five other actors have also been cast, including Ally Maki (Toy Story 4, Cloak & Dagger), Aisling Bea (Living with Yourself), Pete Holmes (Crashing), Timothy Simons (Veep) and Mikey Day (Little).
Filming already started earlier this year. However, by March it was temporarily shut down, making it one of the many film productions that have been affected by the pandemic.

Though no plot details have been given for the film, with Disney CEO Bob Iger previously describing it as being “reimagined for a new generation,” the film is being directed by Dirty Grandpa‘s Dan Mazer and scripted by Mikey Day (Brittany Runs a Marathon) and Streeter Seidell (CollegeHumor). The reboot will be produced by Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson.
The new cast members will be joining Jojo Rabbit breakout star Archie Yates as he takes on his first ever leading role along with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Ellie Kemper and Catastrophe‘s Rob Delaney.
The Home Alone franchise began with the 1990 original starring Macaulay Culkin, which went on to become the highest grossing film of that year, bringing in $476.6 million worldwide (equivalent to $934 million in 2019). Directed by Chris Columbus and conceived by John Hughes, the film went on to become a franchise with five total films, only two of which starred Culkin. The last entry was Home Alone: The Holiday Heist in 2012, which debuted on television.
