UPDATE: Production Begins on Tom Holland’s Uncharted Film!

Production begins on Tom Holland’s Uncharted film!

After going through a lot of major setbacks during its pre-production stage, production on Sony Pictures’ long-forthcoming film adaptation of Uncharted is finally taking off with MCU alum Tom Holland taking to Instagram to confirm that filming has begun on the long-in development project. This revelation comes four months after the studio decided to shut down the production on the film’s first day of filming in Berlin.

UPDATE: We have heard from a source that shooting has, in fact, not quite begun yet but production is hoping it will soon.

In addition to this good news, Sony Pictures has also announced that Uncharted has now been moved up to an earlier release date in 2020. Originally scheduled to be released on October 8, 2021, the highly-anticipated film will now be hitting theaters on July 16, 2021, which was the previous release date of the third installment to Sony and Marvel Studios’ Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film. The July 16, 2021 release will see the film go up against Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2.

Set to be directed by Zombieland and Venom director Ruben FleischerUncharted will be a prequel to the game series, taking its basis from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception wherein the young thief Nathan Drake (Holland) first encounters his partner Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) and in essence, sets up the events of the entire game franchise.

Joining Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are Academy Award-nominated actor Antonio Banderas (The Mask of ZorroPain and Glory), Grey’s Anatomy actress Sophia Ali and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle.

Based on the action-adventure video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune from Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive, the story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is escalated when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.
