Edgar Wright set to direct Set My Heart To Five for Focus Features
After partnering with the distributor Focus Features for his acclaimed Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, Edgar Wright (Baby Driver) is reuniting with the studio to direct an adaptation of Simon Stephenson’s debut novel Set My Heart to Five, according to Deadline.

Yet to be published, the novel takes place in the “all-too human” future of 2054 and follows Jared, an android who embarks on a quest to convince humans that he and his kind should be granted the ability to feel after undergoing his own emotional awakening sparked by his introduction to ’80s and ’90s movies that leads to an adventure across the west coast of America. Following the conclusion of the journey, Jared becomes determined to write a film script that will change the world.
The rights to the novel were recently acquired by Focus Features, Working Title Films and Complete Fiction Films, who signed to Baby Driver director Wright to helm the project while Stephenson himself is adapting the screenplay from his own manuscript. The novel is set to be published later this year by HarperCollins’ Hanover Square Press in the US and 4th Estate in the United Kingdom.

Focus Features and Wright have worked together going all the way back to his second feature effort, the romantic zomedy classic Shaun of the Dead, followed by the rest of the Cornetto trilogy Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, with Working Title also having produced the latter two titles and his Oscar-nominated heist thriller Baby Driver. Wright’s upcoming project, the psychological thriller Last Night in Soho starring Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), is produced by Working Title and is being distributed by Focus Features.
