#IStayHomeFor @kikkosedg! Hey everybody, it’s now so important to stay home and keep our distance from others if you are able. It’s one way we can help prevent the spread of #Coronavirus and save lives. The more of us who can, make it safer for those who can’t. So if you’re home too like me, post a video or photo with a sign like mine, telling who you are staying home for and ask 6 friends to do the same. Post it with the hashtag #IStayHomeFor so I can see and share. The more folks involved, the merrier – We’re all connected by various degrees (Trust me, I know!) I’m kicking it off with @jimmyfallon @eltonjohn @Brandicarlile @kevinhart4real @ddlovato @davidbeckham – but I encourage YOU ALL to join in too! Let’s use this 6 Degree thing to do some good! . . . . #Corona #Coronavirus #StayHome #StaySafe #6Degrees #ThinkingOfYou #SpreadTheWord

Additionally, filmmaker Edgar Wright is encouraging people to support cinemas by purchasing gift cards and memberships, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Major theater chains such as Cinemark, AMC Theatres, Regal, Cineplex, Landmark, and Alamo Drafthouse have temporarily shut down with recent estimates that about 4,000 theaters have closed.

To help with financial losses, Wright wrote in Empire Magazine: “After you’ve read this, why not buy a membership for yourself, or for someone close to you. Buy some gift cards. Donate where you can. Consider, if you can afford to, not asking for your unlimited subscription to be refunded. Yes, you may not be able to go back in the coming months, but you’ll feel better for having helped now than if you later found your local church of cinema had been forced to close for good. I myself have been buying memberships to cinemas I frequent that I hadn’t already joined.”

The Baby Driver director made it clear he understood that this was “not a luxury that everyone can afford,” but asked those who could to think of the “many hard-working staff at your favorite cinema who may have just lost their jobs. This might help ensure they have a place of work to return to.”

The outlet notes that independent cinemas in Europe have been getting requests from supportive customers asking if they can buy a gift certificate to help. There are also talks that some cinemas are trying to set up PayPal accounts to allow customers to donate money, buying “virtual tickets or virtual cups of coffee” to help struggling theaters, though not every cinema is able to “handle all of these methods of financial support” particularly those that are unable to sell gift cards through their websites.
