Walt Disney Animation Studios has a decided hit on their hands as their 53rd feature film, Frozen, today crosses the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office, splitting the total gross right down the middle between domestic and international grosses. Capping a record-breaking year at the box office for The Walt Disney Studios, the animated musical is the fourth 2013 Disney release to reach the $500 million milestone, joining Disney?Pixar’s Monsters University and Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.
Having opened wide domestically on November 27, Frozen earned $93.6 million in just five days, setting the record for both the largest Thanksgiving debut in history as well as the largest opening ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Already the second-biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios film ever in North America (behind The Lion King), Frozen became the biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios release of all time in the UK/Ireland today. The film has yet to open in several international territories including China, Brazil, Argentina, Korea and Japan.
