Peter Segal Charts a Course for Jonny Quest!

Originally linked to the project back in 2008, Grudge Match helmer Peter Segal today tells ComingSoon.net that progress is still being made on a live action Jonny Quest feature film, which he’s attached to direct.

“I would love to make that my next movie,” Segal says. “…We just hired a writer to do another pass. We already have a very good script. Then we go through budgeting hell and trying to get it into shape.”

The original animated series ran from 1964 – 65, lasting a mere 26 episodes. The blond and brainy Jonny (voiced by Tim Matheson) was the 11-year-old son of scientist Dr. Benton Quest. Along for the adventure was Hadji Singh, the gifted 11-year-old Calcutta orphan who was adopted by Dr. Quest, and Quest’s tough and charistmatic bodyguard, Race Bannon.

A feature film version of the classic Hanna-Barbera action adventure series has come close to production in the past few years with a script by Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans). Zac Efron was even linked to the title role back in 2009 and Dwayne Johnson rumored for the Bannon role.

Check back soon for our full interview with Segal and catch Grudge Match in theaters December 25.
