The Wrap reports that Sony has brought in Roberto Orci (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Star Trek Into Darkness) to pen a yet-to-be-titled Marvel film. And while you might be quick to think the project connects to the current Spider-Man/Venom films, the trade reports that the new character will hail from a different corner of the Marvel universe Sony currently has access to.
Obviously, this means details are being kept under wraps for the time being. Suffice to say, Sony owns Marvel Comics properties such as Nightwatch, Silk, Silver and Black; as well as Spider-Man, Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter.

Sony has long attempted to create its own Spider-Verse featuring the Sinister Six. In fact, Orci was once involved with preparation on a Sinister Six film after co-writing The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of course, when that film, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, failed to live up to expectations, Sony pivoted away from its plans and joined forces with Marvel to reboot Spidey in the MCU.
Executive Vice President Palak Patel is overseeing this new project for Sony.

Currently, Sony has two Marvel films on its docket — the Andy Serkis-helmed Venom 2, with Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, as well as Morbius, starring Jared Leto.
