The Latest From Ben Stiller on Zoolander 2

Sometimes it’s surprising how many people aren’t aware of Ben Stiller’s thriving career as a film director, since many watch movies like Reality Bites and Zoolander and Tropic Thunder unaware he’s doing way more than his usual comedy schtick in front of the camera.

That probably won’t be the case after Stiller fans see his upcoming film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a movie filled with humor, romance and adventure and is quite a step forward from his previous work.

Since we knew that the filmmaker was planning a stop at New York’s Lincoln Center to talk after a screening of 2001’s Zoolander this weekend, we decided to broach the subject of the much-discussed sequel when we spoke to him about “Mitty.”

“It definitely could happen,” he told ComingSoon.net earlier today. “It just hasn’t really come together yet, but there’s a script that Justin Theroux and I worked on that we really like, and it’s just a matter of figuring out how to do it right. For me and the people who are big fans of the movie, I want to make sure that we’re doing it in a way that we felt good about it, and it takes a lot of elements to come together for that to happen.”

From what he told us earlier, it probably won’t be his next movie as a director as he’s hoping to direct something which he doesn’t also star in, but he had previously stated that he’d like Theroux to possibly direct the sequel.

With the long-awaited sequel to Anchorman coming out in a few weeks, it seems like only a matter of time since the fan base for Zoolander has similarly grown since it was released.

Stick around for the full interview with Mr. Stiller closer to the release of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on Christmas Day.
