Producer David Heyman on J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Last week, Warner Bros. made the surprise announcement that the studio is re-teaming with author J.K. Rowling for an adaptation of her faux textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, to be set in the cinematic world of Harry Potter. At today’s press junket for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, eight-time “Potter” producer David Heyman made a brief statement regarding the ambitious return to the “Wizarding World.”

“I can’t talk really about it yet,” he said. “All I can say is that it’s great. Jo had no need to go back to this universe or world. It’s not Harry Potter per se, but the world of Harry. She’s chosen to do so because she felt a need to tell a story. That she’s doing it means that it’s going to be very, very special.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is said to be the first in a new big screen series and will follow the adventures of Newt Scamander, a full 70 years before the events depicted in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. As always, check back for more details as soon as they develop.
