As festival season kicked off last weekend with the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals, the Weinstein Company is the first distributor out of the gate with the first acquisition of the season, having picked up the North American distribution rights to John Curran’s Tracks, according to Deadline.
Starring Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Adam Driver from “Girls,” it tells the true story of Robyn Davidson who in 1977, trekked the 1,700 miles across the Western Australia desert accompanied only by four camels and her dog. It’s adapted by Marion Nelson from Davidson’s memoir with Driver playing the National Geographic photographer who documented Davidson’s journey.
The film premiered at the Venice festival and will be shown at Telluride before going onto the Toronto International Film Festival next week.
