In the wake of his Life of Pi having earned more than $609 million at the worldwide box office (in addition to an Academy Award win for directing), Ang Lee appears to be interested in further exploring 3D filmmaking technology. Deadline reports that Lee’s next project will be a still-untitled narrative that explores boxing in the ’60s and ’70s and will call for recreations of some of the sport’s most iconic bouts.
Frost/Nixon and The Queen screenwriter Peter Morgan will provide the screenplay, which is said to include, among other fights, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s 1975 “Thrilla in Manila.”
Lee will also produce alongside James Schamus.
