With director James Cameron hard at work writing back-to-back sequels to his box office record-setting smash Avatar–which don’t have specified dates as of yet but could very well be shooting for December 2015 and 2016–anime and Manga fans may be wondering what that means for Cameron’s insistence that he plans to develop and direct a live action movie based on Battle Angel.
We hadn’t really heard anything from Cameron about the project since last year, but when the Oscar-winning filmmaker was down in Mexico City earlier this week to speak at the technology forum TagDF, a local site called Diario La Verdad was in attendance to document some of the more interesting bits of the panel, and fortunately, our pals at The Film Stage speak Spanish and they translated the text to share the juicier parts. One thing he told the audience was that he plans to start development on the long-gestating project sometime in 2017, telling the audience that its themes of trans-human exploration has “haunted” him for years.
If Cameron follows through with it, then Battle Angel will likely be his next movie after Avatar 2 and Avatar 3.
