Rodham, the upcoming biopic of Hillary Rodham Clinton, appears to have found its leading lady. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Carey Mulligan has emerged as frontrunner for the role.
Having landed on last year’s “Black List” of unproduced screenplays, Young Il Kim’s script will be directed by The Spectacular Now helmer James Ponsoldt.
The Temple Hill Entertainment production will focus on the early years of the future first lady’s life and features the following official logline:
During the height of the Watergate scandal, rising star Hillary Rodham is the youngest lawyer chosen for the House Judiciary Committee to Impeach Nixon, but she soon finds herself forced to choose between a destined path to the White House and her unresolved feelings for Bill Clinton, her former boyfriend who now teaches law in Arkansas.
Mulligan recently starred in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and can be seen coming up in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis.
