Chloe Moretz Joining Denzel Washington in The Equalizer

There are few projects that have gone through as many different directions and incarnations then the attempt to bring Michael Sloan’s popular ’80s crime show The Equalizer, starring the late Edward Woodward, to the big screen, but it’s finally coming together as a Training Day reunion between Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua, to be distributed by Sony Pictures.

Deadline has added a new piece to the puzzle and it might be a surprising one as they’re reporting that Chloë Moretz, the bad-ass Hit Girl from Kick-Ass and the upcoming remake of Carrie, has scored the co-lead in the film opposite Denzel, playing a young prostitute named Teri, a role written for a slightly older actress. Comparisons are already being made of the relationship between Washington’s Robert McCall and Moretz’s character to that of Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. Moretz had a “chemistry read” with Washington that impressed the Oscar-winning actor.

At the same time, the creator of the original show, Michael Sloan, has signed a deal to write a new novel about the mysterious former covert operative Robert McCall for Thomas Dunne Books to be published sometime in early 2014.

The Equalizer is currently scheduled for release on April 11, 2014.
