Vulture recently talked to actress Judy Greer–best known for her role as Kitty on “Arrested Development” and movies like Alexander Payne’s The Descendants–and she gave them the scoop that she will be joining Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, portraying Cornelia, the chimp previously played by Devyn Dalton in the original Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
“Dawn” is the sequel to the blockbuster Rise of the Planet of the Apes with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves taking over the helming duties and Andy Serkis returning in the performance-capture role of Caesar, joined by Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Gary Oldman and Keri Russell.
“It’s a very different kind of work than I’m used to,” she told them. “I’m not going to be wearing Manolo Blahniks in this one,”. According to the story, Greer met with Reeves for the role of Cornelia after being encouraged by her 13 Going on 30 co-star (and “Rise” star) Andy Serkis.
Apparently, Greer’s love for the “Planet of the Apes” movies may go far beyond any of the fans waiting to see the sequel, since apparently, even her wedding included a number of “Apes” references. “We had a chimp husband-and-wife cake topper at our wedding. At the cocktail hour, we played ‘Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ on two separate televisions in the bar area. And on the wedding gift I bought him, a vintage Rolex, I had it engraved, ‘Ape shall not kill ape.’ I was then told that, technically, it’s ‘Ape shall never kill ape,’ but there wasn’t enough space for engraving purposes.”
Next up for Greer is a role in Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Carrie, out October 18.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release on May 23, 2014.
