The Guillermo del Toro-produced Mama has proven to be a hit both domestically and internationally. Universal, the distributor, is so happy with the supernatural thriller’s success, that a sequel is now being considered, says the studio’s president of international, David Kosse.
Kosse told Screen Daily, “We think theres potential for a Mama franchise. Wed like to do another one. But those conversations are in the early stages.”
Starring Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Mama reached number one at the box office when it opened in January. The film has grossed an estimated $89 million worldwide.
