Having already set box office records overseas, Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 hits theaters domestically this Thursday evening and, throughout the week, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype will be bringing you interviews with the cast and crew. Today, we’ve got a special conversation with writer-director Black and producer Kevin Feige.
Black, who previously teamed with leading man Robert Downey Jr. for 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is well known for providing the screenplays to films like Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad, The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Iron Man 3 gives him the opportunity to bring his traditional Christmas setting to the Marvel cinematic universe.
Feige, meanwhile, began his big screen career as an associate producer on Bryan Singer’s original X-Men in 2000, producing more than dozen Marvel projects before being named President of Production for Marvel Studios, shortly after the tremendous success of Jon Favreau’s first Iron Man.
In the below interview, both men discuss the multi-faceted theme of identity, central to the Iron Man 3 storyline as well as the official launch of Marvel Studios’ “Phase Two.” Beginning with this film, Phase Two continues through upcoming projects like Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, culminating in 2015’s Marvel’s The Avengers 2.
