Video Interview: Matthew Goode on Stoker

Prepare yourself, foreign genre film fanatics, because director Park Chan-wook of Oldboy fame has finally made the leap over to our shores with his first English language film, the creepy erotic thriller, Stoker, starring Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman.

Wasikowska plays India Stoker, a teenage girl whose father died in a horrible car accident leaving her alone with her unstable mother (Kidman), when her uncle Charlie shows up and things start getting progressively worse. And that’s where Matthew Goode comes into the picture.

The clean-cut British actor has been appearing in movies on these shores for many years and he’s probably best known for playing Ozymandias in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, but he hasn’t really played a character like Charlie Stoker, and much of that comes down to the unconventional casting by Chan-wook.

Earlier this week, ShockTillYouDrop.com spoke with Goode about the experience working with a visionary like Chan-wook and what that entailed, working with Mia Wasikowska and filming a sequence that could only be dubbed “piano sex,” using his looks and charm in a new way as the menacing Charlie and a lot more. Stoker opens in New York and Los Angeles today (Friday, March 1st) and in other cities over the coming month.
