BTS RM‘s new track “Domodachi” from the Right Place Wrong Person album has an intriguing meaning. The BTS leader, aka Kim Namjoon, is famous for his clever wordplay, and the song “Domodachi” clearly demonstrates this.
RM‘s new LP, Right Place, Wrong Person, marks his first solo comeback since his debut with Indigo in 2022. As per BigHit, the BTS rapper’s latest EP showcases his “raw and honest presentation of RM’s distinctive sensibility, aesthetics, and beliefs.” The album contains eleven tracks, including the title track “Lost” and the pre-released single “Come back to me.”
What does RM’s new song ‘Domodachi’ ft. Little Simz mean?
BTS RM uses subtle wordplay in the title of the B-side track, “Domodachi.” In Japanese, “Domo” can mean thanks (casually), and the word “Tomodachi” refers to friends. So, “Domodachi” means “thanks, friends,” but the lyrics of “Domodachi” clearly hint that his gratitude towards ‘Tomodachi’ or friends in the song is sarcastic.
In “Domodachi,” RM digs at the people around him who pretend to be close to him. The “Heaven” crooner rages through the track rapping: “All my friends wanna get around in O’s, all my friends wanna take another pose/ Yeah, I’m knocked out, what a bulls*** (Get the f*** down)/ Muhf****, want a doom sh**/ No more goofin’ around, I want cool sh**/ I’ma stay calm when they come up with that new sh**.”
In verse 2, Little Simz keeps the high tempo of the song intact as she raps: “Look, I step on the place and they yell ‘Go figure’/ Watch, I’ma go all out for my hitta/ I already told them,/ I’ma gorilla, Simz and RM man, it don’t get bigger/ Catch me in the back with my G’s dem, greet them with respect when you see them/ Run me up a check, I’ma need that, and give my co dee a stack/ ‘Cause that’s my dog, that’s my homie, you and I know I don’t do phoney.”
Along with the B-side track “Domodachi,” RM’s title track “LOST!” has sent fans into a frenzy. The brilliant music video represents the “inside of Namjoon’s brain.” Within hours of its release, “Lost” has clocked over 1 million views on YouTube and is currently trending at 12 under the music category.
