SM Entertainment shared Aespa star Winter‘s major health update. As per the label, the 23-year-old has undergone surgery and will take some time off the limelight to recover.
K-pop rising icons Aespa are preparing for a comeback in May. After releasing the comeback project, The group will kickstart their second world tour, SYNK: Parallel Line. However, the latest music label report could not confirm whether Aespa’s Winter will participate in the comeback promotion.
Aespa Winter underwent surgery for collapsed lung
As per SM Entertainment, Aespa’s Winter, aka Kim Min-Jeong, had a pneumothorax surgery and is recovering. For the uninitiated, a pneumothorax is a condition in which air accumulation surrounding the lungs causes pressure on the lung and causes it to collapse.
SM further noted, “As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure following her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion.”
The music label did not confirm Winter’s future participation in the comeback or the world tour. It stated, “Regarding her future schedule, we will consider Winter’s recovery status our top priority moving forward.”
Meanwhile, Aespa announced their second world tour, SYNK: Parallel Line, starting on June 29th at Jamsil Stadium. The K-pop act will have two back-to-back shows on June 29 and June 30 at the Seoul location.
The group will also hold shows at Fukuoka, Nagoya, Saitama, Singapore, and Osaka in July, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Jakarta, and Sydney in August. They will travel to Melbourne, Macau, and Bangkok in September for the second world tour.
Aespa made their last comeback with the EP Drama in November 2023. The mini album sold over 1,500,000 copies in South Korea. It ranked at number three on the Circle Album Chart, number 2 on the US World Chart, and also entered at number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Following the success of Drama, Aespa also won multiple awards at the year-end ceremonies, including the Artist of the Year — Streaming Unique Listeners award at the 2024 Circle Chart Music Awards. They also won the Popularity Award – Singer (Female) Award at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards.
