SHINee members Choi Minho and Key have new updates for Shawols (SHINee fans), who have feared the group’s disbandment since Taemin’s exit from SM Entertainment.
The K-pop pioneers SHINee debuted in 2008 and experienced some turbulent times. The group, which contributed some of the viral Korean pop songs, including “Lucifer” and “Ring Ding Dong,” faced the most significant hurdle when one of the group members, Jonghyun, tragically passed away. The other members respected the late singer’s legacy and returned stronger than ever.
SHINee’s Minho & Key renew contract with SM Entertainment
SHINee’s Choi Minho and Key took exemplary steps to show their continued faith in SM Entertainment as they renewed their contract in 2024. In a statement to the press, Minho and Key talked about their trust in the music label, noting, “SM is where we have been together in every moment from SHINee’s beginnings to the present. I think we are where we are today because of the company staff who have worked with us for a long time. We will continue to improve as artists with SM.”
SM Entertainment commented on Key and Minho’s commitment to the company: “We are happy to continue our precious relationship with Key and Minho. As we have renewed our contracts based on our strong trust, we will provide generous support in many ways so that Key and Minho can shine even more as SHINee members and solo artists,” the label said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the group’s youngest member, Taemin, left SM Entertainment weeks before and joined BPM Entertainment. Taemin assured fans he would support SHINee and participate in future group projects. He said, “I have always been Lee Taemin and always will be. We’ve been together for a long time. I believe better things are coming, and I will make sure they do. I ask for your continued support in the future, both as a member of SHINee and as Taemin.”
After Key and Minho’s contract renewal, SHINee will meet fans in an upcoming May concert. Onew, the oldest member of the group who was on a short hiatus due to his health issues, will reportedly also participate in the Shinee World VI: Perfect Illumination’ concert.
