The narrative of Exhuma begins with a wealthy Korean-American family hiring Hwa-Rim and Bong-Gil to cure a mysterious illness that runs in their family. After checking on the newborn son, Hwa-Rim declares the family is getting a ‘grave’s call.’ This means one of their ancestors is haunting them.
They dig out their ancestor’s grave with the help of Feng shui master Sang-Deok (Choi Min-Sik) and a mortician, Yeong-Geun (Yoo Hae-Jin). But what seemed to be an open-and-shut case becomes more complicated with each step. The ominous stuff unleashed from the grave puts their lives in danger. What happens next makes up the rest of the narrative.
