The Atypical Family episode 8 aired on Sunday, May 26, 2024, on JTBC and Netflix. Starring Jang Ki-Yong and Chun Woo-Hee, the K-drama tells the fantasy romance story of a mysterious woman and her connection to a family possessing magical powers.
In the previous episode, Yi-Na (Park So-Yi) insisted her father, Bok Gwi-Joo (Jang Ki-Yong), understand why Do Da-Hae (Chun Woo-Hee) called off the wedding. Using his time-traveling power, Gwi-Joo discovered how badly Da-Hae’s fake family treated her. He wanted to protect her and thus returned to Da-Hae. He proposed a deal to the latter’s fake mother.
The Atypical Family episode 8 begins with Da-Hae’s mother, Baek Il-Hong, accepting Gwi-Joo’s proposal. He makes a “business deal” with her in which he promises to use his powers to make them rich. And, in return, he will stay by Da-Hae’s side to create happy moments. Da-Hae later tells Il-Hong she cannot agree to the deal because she likes him.

In The Atypical Family episode 8, Gwi-Joo tries to convince Da-Hae to agree to his “business deal.” When Il-Hong privately questions Da-Hae why she doesn’t want to take advantage of the situation, she confesses her feelings for Gwi-Joo. She admits that her feelings were the reason she called off the wedding.
Da-Hae comments, “It’s dangerous to mix business with pleasure.” It seems Da-Hae genuinely likes Gwi-Joo and, hence, doesn’t want her family to hurt him or his family. But things do not go her way, as Gwi-Joo is determined to protect her. He helps in Il-Hong’s sauna business and follows Da-Hae when she hunts for a new husband. Eventually, she agrees to share a meal with him.
On their dinner date at a small restaurant, she shares a few happy moments from her childhood. After listening to her, Gwi-Joo vanishes and travels to the moment when Da-Hae meets her fraudulent family. He witnesses Da-Hae in mourning clothes at her father’s funeral when Il-Hong and her bodyguard approach her. Il-Hong is apparently a loan shark and makes Da-Hae sign a contract. It mentions that the young girl will pay off her father’s debt, and hence, Da-Hae joins the fake family to scam people and pay off her debt.
The next day, Gwi-Joo seeks Il-Hong’s help to woo Da-Hae. The two sit at a park where Il-Hong’s bodyguard/brother, Hyung-Tae (Choi Kwang-Rok), helps Gwi-Joo create happy moments. Eventually, he uses his powers to bring Da-Hae’s favorite dessert from her hometown. He also hands over a winning lottery ticket and asks her to use it to pay off her debts.
Meanwhile, Gwi-Joo’s daughter, Yi-Na, continues to visit Da-Hae at Il-Hong’s sauna place. While Il-Hong wants to know the kid’s magical powers, Da-Hae keeps it a secret. The same day, Gwi-Joo’s mother, Man-Heum, warns Da-Hae to stay away from the Bok family. In response, she requests that Man-Heum ask her family to leave her alone. Da-Hae then gives the lottery ticket to Gwi-Joo’s mother, as she believes it will help with Man-Heum’s sleeping problem.
The Atypical Family episode 8 ending: A big revelation about Jang Ki-Yong’s family ring connects him to Chun Woo-Hee
The Atypical Family episode 8 also focuses on Grace and Bok Dong-Hee’s bittersweet bond. The former helps Dong-Hee with her love life and comforts her when the plan fails. Meanwhile, Man-Heum’s husband, Soon-Gu, lands into trouble and ends up stealing the lottery ticket from his wife.
When he steals the ticket, Gwi-Joo enters the room. The latter asks if his mother has thrown out Da-Hae’s belongings. Soon-Gu informs him that she has discarded Da-Hae’s things and that Dong-Hee has found the Bok family’s ring in Da-Hae’s belongings. For context, Da-Hae earlier told Gwi-Joo that the person who saved her from the school fire gave her a ring. She wanted to return it to the family but didn’t know her savior’s identity. Therefore, Gwi-Joo tries to find the ring because he thinks his friend, who died in that school fire incident, saved Da-Hae.
Gwi-Joo notices a pouch falling off Man-Heum’s hand while she is asleep. He opens the pouch and finds a big ring. He rushes to his family’s giant locker and looks for their family ring. When he compares both the ornaments, they are identical.
The episode’s ending features Gwi-Joo realizing that he was the one who saved Da-Hae from the fire accident and gave her the ring. Meanwhile, Man-Heum wakes up from her dream, in which she sees how the ring connects Gwi-Joo and Da-Hae. The final scene shows Gwi-Joo telling Da-Hae, “I think I’ll have to save you. My power must have really gotten into my head.”
