The episode continued to document the story of two individuals, popular instructor Seo Hye-Jin (Jung Ryeo-Won) and her former student-turned-instructor Lee Joon-Ho (Wi Ha-Joon).
Episode 4 of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon documented significant tension as Seo Hye-Jin and Lee Joon-Ho battled a fierce rival. The duo’s new project as the Teacher-Pupil Tag Team fell short when only one student attended their free lecture. All the other prospective students attended rival Choiseon Korean instructor Choi Hyeong-Seon’s lecture. However, Joon-Ho motivated Hye-Jin to teach one student who had decided to switch his academy from Choiseon to Daechi Chase.

The latest episode of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon began with the battle between Daechi Chase’s instructor duo—Seo Hye-Jin and Lee Joon-Ho—and Choiseon Korean’s veteran instructor, Choi Hyeong-Seon. Ahead of Daechi-Chase’s free lecture, Hyeong-Seon’s assistant asked one of their students Shi-Woo to attend the free lecture and update him on the details. After much reluctance, Shi-Woo agreed.
Nam Cheong-Mi met Hye-Jin for dinner and expressed interest in teaching Changyeong High students. A displeased Hye-Jin felt helpless as the school was one of her main focuses at the academy. Meanwhile, Joon-Ho was out drinking with friends when he returned to the academy. After expressing his concern over Cheong-Mi’s update, the duo decided to train for their free lecture. While training, Joon-Ho noticed a stark difference between Hye-Jin’s teaching style in the past and the present.
When Hye-Jin remained focused on the academy’s betterment and their rivalry with Hyeong-Seong, Joon-Ho left home disappointed. The two then prepared for their free lecture late into the night. Meanwhile, Hyeong-Seong plotted her plan to get back at the Daechi Chase instructors. On the other hand, during breakfast with Daechi Chase director Kim Hyun-Tak, Hye-Jin expressed confidence in having a full house for their lecture.
Ahead of the Daechi Chase lecture, Hyeong-Seong hired a new academy instructor as part of her new plan. Meanwhile, Cheong-Mi insisted on taking a class for the Changyeong High students at Daechi Chase. Hye-Jin and Joon-Ho remained confident about their free lecture but were surprised to see no students turn up While the majority of the students headed to Hyeong-Seong’s supplementary class, she had arranged for exclusive materials for the students to lure them in.
Shi-Woo, the student secretly asked to attend the free lecture by Choiseon Korean, entered the Daechi Chase classroom. Initially, Hye-Jin asked Joon-Ho to send the student back. However, after Joon-Ho’s motivation, Hye-Jin decided to teach Shi-Woo. While she took the first half of the free lecture, Joon-Ho reminisced on their past moments when Hye-Jin helped him study and get into a good university. Meanwhile, Hyeong-Seon mocked the Teacher-Pupil Tag Team during her classes.
Daechi Chase director Hyun-Tak was disappointed with the development. However, he decided not to express those to Hye-Jin and Joon-Ho. During the free lecture, Hye-Jin decided to adopt her past teaching style, focusing more on the interpretation of the text and the context of the author rather than only focusing on exam materials. Both Hye-Jin and Joon-Ho successfully completed their lecture, while thinking of their moments together.
Upon their return to the teacher’s office, Hye-Jin was flooded with pity text messages from fellow employees. Meanwhile, Cheong-Mi understood Hye-Jin’s passion and brought the duo snacks as an apology for her behavior. Hye-Jin decided to celebrate the event nevertheless.
At the end of the episode, Shi-Woo updated his classmates about the Daechi Chase lecture. He expressed that he was a lot of fun and decided to switch from Choiseon Korean to Daechi Chase. Given that Shi-Woo was one of the highest-scoring students, fellow students chose to follow him.
