Episode 5 of the BTS Universe-inspired K-drama Begins ≠ Youth aired on Xclusive on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The series stars Seo Ji-Hoon as Kim Hwan, Seo Young-Joo as Kim Do-Geon, Jung Woo-Jin as Kim Joo-An, Jeon Jin-Seo as Jeon Je-Ha, Noh Jong-Hyun as Min Ce-In, Ahn Ji-Ho as Jeong Ho-Su and Kim Yoon-Woo as Park Ha-Ru.
In Begins ≠ Youth episode 5, viewers see the police questioning all seven boys about their time at the sea beach. The police have found a dead body at the beach. The episode also reveals the identity of the deceased person. It turns out to be a member of the seventh Songho Scholarship Foundation, Wonjoong Byeon. Another big highlight of the episode is Kim Hwan standing up against his father after realizing his selfishness.
Begins ≠ Youth Episode 5: Kim Hwan stands up against his father and runs to his friends
Episode 5 of Begins ≠ Youth starts with someone carrying flammable liquid to a certain place. It turns out to be the piano academy. The person leaves the liquids in front of the place and leaves. It seems like Kim Do-Geon (Seo Young-Joo) brought the liquid. Then, the episode returns to the present moment, where all the seven boys are getting questioned by the police as a dead body has been found at the beach, near the place they were hanging out earlier.
One by one, everyone’s parents arrive at the police station and take their son with them, except for Kim Joo-An’s (Jung Woo-Jin) father. Thus, only he has to sit alone at the police station. However, Kim Do-Geon and Jeong Ho-Su (Ahn Ji-Ho) return there to give him company. Later on, viewers see Kim Hwan’s (Seo Ji-Hoon) father, Kim Chang-Jun, lashing out at him for getting into trouble before the election. His father is a powerful assemblyman and does not want anything to harm his reputation before the election. Thus, Kim Chang-Jun grounds his son for the entire vacation period.
After that, Begins ≠ Youth episode 5 shows what happens to Park Ha-Ru (Kim Yoon-Woo) at the psychiatric hospital. There, he meets the boy who was the victim of a terrible incident during his childhood. Park Ha-Ru is a witness to the incident. Thus, the boy requests him to give testimony to the police about the incident as he still remembers the culprit’s face.
Ha-Ru agrees to do so and is tired of running away and getting sacred all the time. However, when the time for testimony arrives, he has to back out due to the pressure created by his parents. The other boy gets devastated after Ha-Ru fails to keep his word. It also deeply affects Park Ha-Ru’s mental health.
Thereafter, Park Ha-Ru returns to school. On the day of his graduation from school, his parents decide to treat all his six friends. They also gift them warm jackets for the winter. Kim Joo-An has also graduated but is sad as his father doesn’t show up at the ceremony. Although his sister comes to see him at the house, he is still heartbroken. Later on, the episode also sees Park Ha-Ru losing his calm in front of his parents and asking them to stop pressuring him to make their own decisions.
Towards the end of episode 5 of Begins ≠ Youth, Kim Hwan’s (Seo Ji-Hoon) father, Kim Chang-Jun, visits the residents of the colony for a meeting. At the meeting, he gives the residents false hope just to collect their votes in the election. When Kim Hwan realizes that, he stands up against his father. He even confronts him for all the lies he has said to the place’s residents. This makes Kim Chang-Jun furious at his son, and he slaps him across the face in a fit of anger. Right then, the whole neighborhood has a blackout due to an accident.
At the end of the episode, Kim Hwan goes out of his house even after his father asks him to stop. He runs straight to his friends who are hanging out together in the blackout by lighting a small fire. Seeing them all together, Kim Hwan becomes emotional and happy. He then joins them. The episode ends with a mysterious person holding a lighter in his hand and a huge fire breaking out in a place.
