MBC K-drama The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, starring Lee Se-Young and Bae In-Hyuk, recently landed into a controversy. A Korean designer accused the production of copying her designs without permission.
In episodes 5 and 6, Lee Se-Young’s Park Yeon-Woo showcases some hanbok designs. After the broadcast, the designs drew the attention of Korean fashion designer Leesle. She claimed that the K-drama makers used her sketches without her permission.
MBC reportedly cleared the air and apologized to the hanbok maker. She updated her Instagram post, mentioning that the production company had issued an apology.
“There was a mistake”: Korean designer accepts The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract production apology
The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract hanbok controversy led the production to apologize to a Korean designer, Leesle. Her brand (of the same name) creates unique hanbok prints.
MBC told YTN, “We apologized to the hanbok design company and an amicable agreement was reached.” Leesle, too, posted an update on her original Instagram post. Earlier, she bashed The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract makers in the original post.
The update read, “I received a call from the drama production company today. They acknowledged their mistake and apologized politely. Hanbok sketch cooperation: Ri-seul (Hwang Yi-seul) We decided to end it by adding credits.”
It further stated, “There was a mistake, but it was resolved quickly so we decided not to make it an issue, and it was resolved amicably, so please don’t criticize the drama.”
Her original post mentioned that the latest episode had a scene showcasing her hanbok designs. It aired for a few seconds, and she knew that those were her designs.
In The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, Lee Se-Young’s Park Yeon-Woo was a popular hanbok designer in the 19th century. After her husband dies, she transports to the 21st century and enters into a marriage contract with a man who looks like her late spouse.
