Ji Chang-Wook & Shin Hye-Sun sort their feelings in Welcome to Samdalri episode 4
Welcome to Samdalri episode 4 began with a flashback of when Cho Yong-Phil developed feelings for Cho Sam-Dal. While in Seoul, the two spent quality time together. It was at this point that he fell in love with her. The scene cuts to the present when Sam-Dal’s sisters deal with the repercussions of her scandal. After their identities become public, they deal with a lot of public hate.
Meanwhile, Sam-Dal throws a tantrum in front of her friends after being upset at them for calling her a “failure.” While her friends assure it’s a misunderstanding, she is too drunk to realize it. However, they stay by her side until Yong-Phil volunteers to carry her home. The following day, Sam-Dal assures her parents that the scandal wasn’t her fault and that she hadn’t bullied her assistant.
Sam-Dal’s mother goes for a run when Yong-Phil accompanies her. He had bruised his leg from carrying Sam-Dal the previous night, but he told others he was alright. Meanwhile, Sam-Dal’s assistant, Bang Eun-Joo, and her ex-boyfriend, Cheon Chung-Gi, visit the office. For those unaware, the two had an affair while he was still with Sam-Dal. Bang Eun-Joo steals a portfolio file while fighting with the other employees.
Yong-Phil has Sam-Dal’s phone at the office and sees her ex-boyfriend calling. After much consideration, he picks the call up and they argue. Eventually, the whole town learns of the affair after Sam-Dal’s mother reveals it to the ladies. Moreover, Jin-Dal’s ex-husband, Jeon Dae-Young, also visits the hometown for a work project.
During the night, Yong-Phil buys some medicines for Sam-Dal after she hurt her head the previous night. The latter realizes he has her phone and meets him. On their way back home, Sam-Dal receives another call from Chung-Gi. Yong-Phil confirms if he’s her boyfriend, to which Sam-Dal nods in agreement. She further lies about her boyfriend treating her well.
The next day, Sam-Dal’s mother takes her daughters out to gather seaweed. The ladies and a few other men are already in the middle of their work when the three sisters join them. They see Yong-Phil helping the men out. As they gather seaweed together, Sam-Dal hears them talking. She eventually discovers that the word around the town is that she dumped Yong-Phil when it was the other way around.
Sam-Dal and Yong-Phil get into an argument and throw seaweed at each other. Eventually, the two sort their feelings when the latter assures that he never believed the scandal in the first place. Later, their friends tell Yong-Phil about Chung-Gi and Sam-Dal’s breakup. By the end of episode 4, the two meet and Sam-Dal reveals that she lied about her and Chung-Gi’s relationship.
Sam-Dal says she lied because she was embarrassed, further adding, “I should’ve met a guy who was much better than you. But I met a loser and ended up back here. So, I lied.” The episode ends with a flashback scene when Sam-Dal confessed her feelings to Yong-Phil.
To see how their journey unfolds, watch Welcome to Samdalri every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 p.m. JTBC and Netflix.
