Bae Suzy and Yang Se-jong attended the press conference for their upcoming romance drama Doona! on October 18, 2023. The K-drama is all set to premiere on Friday, October 20, 2023 on Netflix. It follows the the love story of a retired K-pop idol and a college student who share a house and spend quality time with each other.
During the press conference, Bae Suzy reflected on the times she made her career as a K-pop idol as a member of Miss A under JYP Entertainment, and how that played a role in her essaying the character of Lee Doona. She said, “As I was acting out Doona, I did think of the times when I was part of a girl group.”

Essaying the role of Lee Doona was very personal to Bae Suzy, considering she was also part of a popular girl group in the past. Reflecting on those days, she continued, “Looking back, I feel like there were moments that I felt I was struggling but I didn’t really know much. I think I tried to deny that I was struggling. I tried to just stay a bubbly person.”
Bae Suzy revealed that she was envious of her character as Lee Doona, who will be seen being extremely open with respect to her feelings. The actress was also part of a girl group, Dream Sweet, in the K-drama, and shot scenes with fellow group members. Director Lee Jeong-hyo revealed that they filmed scenes at KCON Japan.
The drama group also performed on the prequel stage, and it had been a long time since Bae Suzy was performing on stage with a group. Reflecting on the same, she noted that while it was difficult to adapt initially, the girls got closer with time. She said, “At first, it was a mess but then later on we became better synchronized as a group. I felt very satisfied.”
The actress also confessed taking on Doona! because she had read the original webtoon and found the story interesting and exciting. Bae Suzy also chose to play Lee Doona because it was a character she had never played before.
