Panchayat Season 3, Bigg Boss OTT 3, & Heeramandi Part of Most Watched OTT Shows

This year so far has brought a plethora of blockbuster content to the Indian streaming scene that has attracted millions of viewers. According to the mid-year report from Ormax, the first half of 2024 saw several standout shows across different genres and formats. Among the most-watched OTT shows are Panchayat season 3, Bigg Boss OTT 3, Heeramandi, Kota Factory season 3, Killer Soup, and more.

Panchayat season 3

The Viral Fever’s (TVF) Panchayat season 3 has taken the top spot as the most-watched Hindi web series so far in 2024, amassing an impressive 28.2 million views. The show follows the journey of Abhishek Tripathi, a young Panchayat secretary played by Jitendra Kumar, as he adjusts to life in the remote village of Phulera, Uttar Pradesh. 

This season has continued to deliver a slice-of-life storyline and relatability that made the series popular. After all, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, and Durgesh Kumar’s characters are now part of pop culture.

Heeramandi

Next in line is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, a Netflix series that garnered 20.3 million views. Known for his grandiose storytelling, Bhansali brought to life the opulence and struggles of courtesans in Lahore’s Heeramandi district. This historical drama explores the lives of courtesans during the Indian freedom struggle. 

The series portrayed tales of their glory and downfall, highlighting their contributions to the independence movement. It also marked grand comebacks and introduced new faces. After all, the cast included Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, and Aditi Rao Hydari. Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha, and Taha Shah Badussha round out the ensemble.

Indian Police Force season 1

Indian Police Force, directed by Rohit Shetty, has made a substantial impact with 19.5 million views. This series marked Bollywood star Sidharth Malhotra’s OTT debut, playing the role of Delhi police officer Kabir Malik.

The show is part of Shetty’s acclaimed cop universe, known for its high-octane action. The plot revolves around Malik’s relentless pursuit of a terrorist named Zarar and the intense challenges he faces. Alongside Malhotra, the series features Shilpa Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Shweta Tiwari.

Kota Factory season 3

The Viral Fever’s (TVF) Kota Factory season 3 returned to Netflix, drawing 15.7 million views. The series continued to depict the lives of students in Kota, known for its rigorous IIT coaching centers. This season explored the deeper emotional and psychological aspects, addressing themes like mental health and the pressures of academic success.

Jitendra Kumar reprised his role as Jeetu Bhaiya, guiding his students through their challenges. Based on this season’s ending, fans are eagerly waiting for Kota Factory season 4.

Gullak season 4

SonyLIV’s Gullak season 4 attracted 12.1 million viewers, continuing its depiction of relatable middle-class Indian life. This OTT show, featuring Jameel Khan and Geetanjali Kulkarni, focused on the Mishra family as they navigated everyday challenges and wins. Moreover, the latest season saw a change in pace as Annu struggled at his job and Aman grappled with growing up.

Apart from the above-mentioned most-watched OTT shows, the list also included Maamla Legal Hai, Baahubali: Crown Of Blood, and Raisinghani v/s Raisinghani. Karmma Calling, Jamnapaar, Killer Soup, Maharani season 3, Showtime, and Lootere rounded it out. 

Furthermore, the ORMAX report also revealed the most-watched Indian unscripted shows. JioCinema’s Bigg Boss OTT season 3 topped the list with 17.8 million viewers. Followed by Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show with 14.5 million and Shark Tank India season 3 at 12.5 million. In addition, unscripted shows like Ram Janmabhoomi – Return Of A Splendid Sun, The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth, and Love Storiyaan rounded off the list. 

All in all, with unique stories and impressive viewership numbers, the first half of 2024 has set a high bar for the rest of the year.
