Filmmaker Karan Johar has recently confirmed the highly anticipated third installment of the popular franchise, Student of the Year. The revelation came during his appearance at the esteemed Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF), where Johar provided insights into his upcoming projects. Additionally, he included the details surrounding Student of the Year 3.
Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 3 to release as a web series
One of the most intriguing aspects of this announcement is the revelation that Student of the Year 3 will be a web series, unlike its predecessors. Similarly, the director for the third installment is not going to be Karan Johar but rather a fresh face.
Reema Maya, who previously directed Nocturnal Burger, will be the director of Student of the Year 3. Johar emphasized his commitment to collaborating with fresh talents, expressing his confidence in Maya’s ability to infuse her unique perspective into the series.
Karan Johar remarked, “Reema Maya will be directing the digital version of Student of the Year. But it will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”
For those unfamiliar, Reema Maya is an acclaimed writer-director recognized for her exceptional contributions to independent cinema. Notably, her work, Counterfeit Kunkoo, received praise at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. While her latest film, Nocturnal Burger, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. Additionally, Maya has directed unique ads and music videos from renowned global brands, such as Netflix, boAt, and Red Bull, to Ritviz’s “Aaj Na” music video.
Overall, as anticipation builds for Student of the Year 3, fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the cast and crew. With Karan Johar as the producer and Reema Maya as director, the upcoming installment promises to deliver a fresh storyline, true to the essence of the franchise.
