Manjummel Boys, a real-life inspired flick, adds to the hit Malayalam survival drama. The movie impressed audiences and garnered massive collections at the box office, with a worldwide total of $20 million (170 Crore). Despite its success in theaters, recent reports suggest that the makers are gearing up for Hindi and Telugu versions before its OTT release.
Directed by Chidambaram S Poduval, the film is based on a true incident of 2006 at the Guna Caves, Tamil Nadu. It recounts the story of a group of Malayali boys from Ernakulam who visited the caves. Attempting to carve their group’s name led to one of them accidentally falling into the cave. The narrative unfolds as the group bands together to rescue their friend, promising an exhilarating experience.
Soubin Sahir has produced the film under the Parava Films banner. The survival thriller features Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Ganapathi, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Khalid Rahman, and others in significant roles.
Manjummel Boys OTT Release Date Delayed
Earlier reports suggested it may be available on Disney Plus Hotstar by April 2024. But recent updates indicate that the makers are still negotiating its OTT deal. Industry insiders have revealed that the producers are demanding $2.4 million (20 Crore) for its OTT rights, a price that major streaming platforms are hesitant to pay for a Malayalam movie.
Drawing lessons from the previous Malayalam thriller titled 2018, which faced challenges due to the delayed release of its dubbed versions across India. The makers plan to release Manjummel Boys in other languages before its OTT release. This strategic move aims to maximize the movie’s revenue potential. Therefore, there might be a delay in the OTT release, leaving fans eagerly awaiting an official announcement.
It remains to be seen when the makers will announce the OTT release date and whether they will opt for a multi-language release strategy.
