Malayalam star Mohanlal recently played an undefeated warrior in the period action drama Malaikottai Vaaliban. The movie marked his first collaboration with director Lijo Jose Pellissery (LJP), who is known for his unique work. While the movie created a massive buzz among cinephiles, it opened up to mixed reviews. Some liked the movie, while others did not find it interesting. There were also a few reviews that were mostly negative about the movie. LJP has finally reacted to the negative ones and mentioned that the discussions did not go as he had hoped.
Malaikottai Vaaliban follows the story of an undefeated warrior who travels from village to village. He challenges those who come in his way and acquires their land after defeating them. However, he does not realize that his mentor is actually his biggest enemy.
Lijo Jose Pellissery on Malaikottai Vaaliban’s negative reviews: ‘The discussions were in totally wrong direction’
Lijo Jose Pellissery has broken the silence on Malaikottai Vaaliban’s reviews. The movie’s box office collection has been dropping with every passing day. As the film received some negative reviews, the director recently revealed how it was heartbreaking for him. During an interview with Galatta Plus, LJP said, “When such an effort has been taken… I am not saying it should be celebrated… Criticisms are also totally welcome… But during the first two days since the film released, the discussions were in the totally wrong direction.”
Pellissery further explained what he meant by “wrong direction” and revealed that it was unfair to dissuade others from watching the film. He said, “The comments that came out in the first two days sounded like, ‘I did not like it, so nobody in this country should watch it’ — that’s the attitude some had.”
Malaikottai Vaaliban came out on January 25, 2024. The film will also have a sequel.
