Kangana Ranaut‘s highly anticipated movie, Emergency, is finally all set to hit the screens this summer. The makers of the film recently revealed a new release date.
The movie has been directed and written by Ranaut, along with Manikarnika Films, Zee Studios, and EaseMyTrip producing it. Emergency marks her debut as a director. The biographical drama also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and Milind Soman in pivotal roles. Ritesh Shah wrote the screenplay for the movie.
Based on the Indian Emergency (1975-1977), the plot revolves around the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and features Kangana as the late politician. Emergency was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on November 24, 2023, but it has been recently postponed to June 14, 2024.

Emergency to release on June 14, 2024
On January 23, 2024, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to announce the new release date for Emergency, along with a poster. This news comes a day after the actress attended the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya.
In the poster, Kangana can be seen as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She captioned the post with, “Unlock the story behind India’s darkest hour. Announcing Emergency on 14th June, 2024. Witness history come alive as the most feared and fiercest Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi thunders into cinemas. Emergency in cinemas on 14th June, 2024.”
Earlier, Kangana Ranaut talked about directing and starring in the movie. She said, “Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story and I want to thank my super-talented actors like late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!”
Emergency will reportedly be a mega-budget depiction of one of the most controversial Indian historical events. In a statement, Kangana Ranaut expressed her views on her upcoming movie. She said, “Emergency is my most ambitious project and second directorial post-Manikarnika, we have the best of Indian and international talent come together for this big budget, grand period drama.”
