Merry Christmas box Office collection day 4: Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi’s movie earns $1.3 million
As the film Merry Christmas marks its fourth day of release, it minted the double-digit collection. It raked in a net collection of $1.3 million. The trade website Sacnilk estimates Monday’s collection at $198 thousand net. On the whole, a notable achievement for a film that embarked on a relatively slow start at the box office.
Despite facing a slight dip in its fourth-day collections, the film’s Hindi version occupancy remained at 13.37 percent. In the Tamil version, while competing with the likes of Dhanush’s Captain Miller and Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan, Merry Christmas maintained a decent 28.63 percent occupancy.
The simultaneous release of these three films in Tamil theaters has led to a neck-to-neck competition, each vying for the audience’s attention.
Meanwhile, the movie, directed by National Film Award-winning filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, is earning accolades for the commendable chemistry between Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. The film, despite its slow start, is gaining positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
In a recent revelation, Katrina Kaif shared her initial surprise when informed about sharing the screen with Sethupathi. In an interview with Brut, Vijay Sethupathi also admitted his shock upon learning about his co-star, expressing concerns about how their on-screen pairing would be perceived.
He stated, “I was shocked because everybody had that question. When I first told them that I am doing a Sriram Raghavan sir’s film, they said, “okay, very good, superb!” And (then I said) I am doing it with Katrina Kaif, so they said, ‘Is yours a guest role? Is it a heroine centric film?’.
He further added, “Everybody knows Katrina. It was a shock for me also. Like how is it going to be in the film, everybody’s asking, ‘how is this pair on screen?’. The same way I also have that fear and the doubt.”
Merry Christmas is currently playing in theaters.
