Kalki 2898 AD is an upcoming movie based on an epic mythological-science fiction dystopian film. It is directed by Nag Ashwin, starring Prabhas in the lead role. Besides this, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani are also playing pivotal roles. The movie is produced by C. Aswani Dutt under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies.
Adding to the anticipation, Nag Ashwin recently confirmed that the first trailer is expected to be out on April 1, 2024.
However, not only will the movie feature a jam-packed, star-studded cast but it also seems like an enormous project in terms of its budget. The Kalki 2898 AD budget alone is more than the budget of Salaar ($32.4 million), Dunki ($16.8 million), and Animal ($12 million) combined.
For those unaware, all three films gained a lot of success at the box office despite having a low budget. Even still, Prabhas’ own Salaar is getting huge attention among fans in terms of being a box office attraction.
Kalki 2898 AD budget explored: Is it the most expensive Indian movie?
As of writing, Kalki is marked as one of the highest-budget films in the year 2024. The sole budget of the film is expected to be around $72 million. If this comes true, the budget of Kalki 2898 AD will even surpass the budget of Brahmastra ($48 million) and Baahubali ($30 million) in monetary terms.
Further, some reports also indicate that Kalki 2898 will also be ahead of the budget of Adipurush and the Oscar-winning film RRR featured JR. NTR and Ram Charan.
However, it is important to note that the overall budget of the Adipurush reportedly exceeds $84 million. This budget exceeds its original amount as it gets highly criticized due to its poor VFX. Hence, improving it leads to it exceeding its original budget of $60 million.
It will be interesting to see how Kalki 2898 AD will get a reaction from the audience, considering it is a sci-fictional movie with a whole new storyline.
