The story is set in the 1970s. It weaves a complex tale involving an ex-cop turned filmmaker, Kirubakaran (played by S.J. Suryah), and a gangster, Alliyus Caesar (played by Raghava Lawrence). Both collaborate to create a film while navigating the treacherous waters of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. As the story unfolds, it takes viewers on a rollercoaster of suspense, revenge, and unexpected alliances.
Why did Kirubakaran befriend Alliyus?
The story begins in 1973 when DSP Rathna Kumar is tasked with capturing the dangerous elephant poacher Shettani in the dense Kombai forest. The police, however, employ brutal tactics, torturing local tribals for information. However, the police is unaware that these tribals are victims of Shettani’s crimes. Simultaneously, in Madras, Kirubakaran is selected as a sub-inspector in the Tamil Nadu Police.
Kirubakaran witnesses a fight between college students and seemingly murders four students. Despite his apparent fainting at the sight of blood, he finds himself sentenced to prison. Fast forward to 1975, and the political landscape is in turmoil. Chief Minister Sindhanai Rani, eyeing a move to national politics, triggers the need for a new CM. Jeyakodi, a rising star in the ruling SMDK party and a famous film star, aspires to fill this role.
Jeyakodi, distressed by the halting of his film screenings by Karmegam, the Finance Minister, approaches Rathna. He requests Rathna to eliminate four gangsters supporting Karmegam to diminish his influence within the party. Rathna, in turn, recruits Kirubakaran and three other ex-cop prisoners for the mission, promising their freedom and reinstatement if successful.
Kirubakaran, driven by the desire to marry his fiancée Lourde and reclaim his job, accepts the assignment. Kirubakaran assumes the alias of Ray Dasan, a student and assistant director of Satyajit Ray. He convinces Karmegam’s protégé, Alliyus Caesar, to participate in an audition for a pan-India film. The film, titled “Pandyaa,” is intended to be based on Alliyus’s life.
Jigarthanda DoubleX: What happens at the end?
Kirubakaran shoots Alliyus’s real life, discovering a connection between Alliyus’s tribe and the hunted Shettani. The story turns dark when Alliyus discovers and eliminates the moles among his supporters. It is revealed that he was responsible for framing Kirubakaran for the murder of the four students. Fuelled by a desire for revenge, Kirubakaran convinces Alliyus to visit his village under the pretext of capturing Shettani.
In a shocking revelation, Shettani exposes the government’s conspiracy, revealing that he was nurtured to smuggle ivory on behalf of influential business tycoons. The government plans to label Alliyus as the real Shettani and wipe out his tribe in a police operation. The narrative crescendos into a tragic climax as the tribe, including Alliyus and his wife, fall victim to a government-led massacre.
The film concludes with Kirubakaran, previously believed to be dead, surviving along with Paingili, a local tribeswoman, and Alliyus’s newborn son. The post-credits scene introduces a mysterious character with ominous plans for the last remaining members of Alliyus’s family, leaving the audience in suspense and anticipation.
