Interview: Burlesque Queen Gia Nova Talks FRANKENSTEIN CREATED BIKERS

Wild dancer and performance artist Gia Nova talks about her role in FRANKENSTEIN CREATED BIKERS.

Noted fetish model, burlesque dancer and performance artist Gia Nova has appeared in everything from Playboy to Hustler to Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN II, garnering her a wide fan-base of fabulous freaks who dig the voodoo that she does. One of those beautiful weirdos is director James Bickert (DEAR GOD, NO!) who cast the artist in his highly anticipated, shot in Atlanta, 35mm exploitation epic (and quasi DEAR GOD, NO! sequel) FRANKENSTEIN CREATED BIKERS.

Nova appears alongside fellow fetish/burlesque performer Tristan Risk, in a flick that sends up grindhouse film history while also creating an authentic down and dirty paean to good old fashioned sex, violence and political incorrectness.

Nova essentially plays a ‘Bizarro World‘ version of herself, a “vixen stripper” who winds up in Bickert’s world of outlaw bikers, mutant-drug addiction, female bounty hunters and topless hit women.

SHOCK managed to drag Lady Nova from the stage to answer a few questions about her ribald role frolicking with Frankenstein.

SHOCK: How did you end up in Bickert’s weird world?

NOVA: James Bickert and I have had mutual friends for a very long time. I’m actually surprised we didn’t meet sooner, but I’m always touring.  I love horror and really like the grimy, grind house style that James trades in, so it was a no brainer for me to sign on to this film.

SHOCK: Were there any on set challenges for you?

NOVA: Guns make me very nervous, and the only one I’d ever shot before was a paintball gun. For this role I had to work with an armorer to learn how to handle and fire an M-16!  Initially I was scared, almost to tears, at the shooting range. By the end of my last session, I was having fun with it. I love challenging myself and getting over fears.

SHOCK: Can you flesh out your role in the film a bit more for us?

NOVA: I play a fire breathing rogue stripper by the same name. She’s part of a girl gang that tries to take down an undead biker gang. So, basically, yes…I play myself!

SHOCK: What elements of your natural skill-set do you bring to the picture?

NOVA: Well, I am a full time traveling performer. My shows are generally themed around burlesque, sideshow, fetish and horror, and I breath fire for some of the performances. It was a perfect fit!

SHOCK: So, who’s your favorite Frankenstein monster in the movies?

NOVA: Hmmm…it’s really a toss up between Rocky from ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and Herman Munster.
