Out this August is The Curse of Downers Grove, the Bret Easton Ellis co-written horror film, based on the 2001 novel by Michael Hornburg. In the film, set in Downers Grove, Illinois, the titular towns high school seniors see one of their own die each year before graduation. Fear, paranoia and skepticism spread in the first trailer for the movie, starring Bella Heathcote and directed by Derick Martini.
In The Curse of Downers Grove, the town of Downers Grove looks like your average suburban neighborhood — but Downers Grove has a disturbing secret…. For the past eight years, one senior from every high school graduating class has met a bizarre death right before graduation day. And this year, Chrissie Swanson (Bella Heathcote) has a terrible feeling that she is going to be the one to die. Can Chrissie survive the curse of Downers Grove or will she, like those seniors before her, fall prey to the town’s deadly secret?
Some of the spookier stuff in this clip looks fairly standard, but heres hoping The Curse of Downers Grove nails the tricky coming-of-age horror, especially when it seems the curse is some analogy for whichever kid gets left behind in their small town.
Anchor Bay releases The Curse of Downers Grove in theaters and on Digital HD August 21st.
