Home Video: Lost Soul, Giallo Parody The Editor, Backcountry & More

Some of the year’s most acclaimed titles are being announced for their Blu & DVD debut. Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau, David Gregory’s incredible documentary about the notoriously disastrous production has been dated, with extras revealed, as has survival horror Backcountry and Astron-6’s anticipated giallo parody, The Editor.

Up first is Lost Soul on July 14th. Severin is releasing in a 3-Disc Special “House of Pain Edition” that includes over an hour of out-takes, additional interviews with John Frankenheimer and Barbara Steele, concept art gallery with Stanley commentary, Boar Man Diary featurette, location featurette and more. The Special ‘House Of Pain’ Edition will also contain a DVD of the long thought lost 1921 German version of Moreau THE ISLAND OF THE LOST with English subtitles, plus more interview featurettes. A third disc will contain a brand new audiobook recording of H.G. Wells’ ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ read by Richard Stanley.

Meanwhile, horror label Scream Factory continues their releasing of contemporary IFC Midnight films, announcing a September 1st date for the excellent survival horror Backcountry and The Harvest, from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer’s John McNaughton. Michael Shannon and Samantha Morton star in that film about a young girl who befriends a sick boy and learns the secrets of his sinister household.

Finally, Scream Factory has unveiled art for their September 8th release of Astron-6’s The Editor. A detailed and very nutty take on Italian horror, The Editor is like the Zucker Bros. doing giallo. The Canadian collective’s mad energy on full display.

Full extras to come on the Scream titles. Find the art, below. For more, see reviews of The Editor, Lost Soul and Backcountry.
