Allen, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson and Shannon Watters-created comic, about a group of five friends at summer camp who battle the supernatural, is being written as a live action film by Will Widger. Published by BOOM!, the lauded and lovable Lumberjanes is set at the Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types and concerns ‘Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley, five butt-kicking, rad teenage girls wailing on monsters and solving a mystery with the whole world at stake.’
It’s worth pointing out that these punkish pages so focused on women empowerment are now being adapted by a dude, which does seem antithetical to both mission and vibe. The site does report the studio and producers, including FOX production president Emma Watts, are seeking a women director.
